Minor Highlights
|

Miletus -
A
great Ionian port close to the mouth of the river Meander
and the birthplace of several philosophers and sages. This
old seaport is associated with the journeys of the Apostle
Paul and his great oration on the beach to the elders of Ephesus,
before he sailed to Jerusalem.
Priene
-
The first establishments go back to 2000 BC according to
ancient documents.
A theatrical stage setting on an almost sheer cliff by the
river Meander, the oldest and most important building still
standing is the temple to Athena.

Pamukkale - Hierapolis
Famous
for it's 'cotton castles' of white travertine terraces created
by the calcium deposits from the hot springs. In the Roman period
this area was a major medical and recreation center. Its also
appears that Philip lived here after the Apostles scattered
from Jerusalem and tradition has it that his martyirum still
stands.

Didyma -
This location dates from
550 BC.
The magnificent temple of Apollo made Didyma a shrine to rival
the oracle at Delphi. From the sacred well wide steps ascend
to support the remains of over 100 decorated columns and here
the prophetess was consulted by emperors and kings.
Lycian
- Patara
A major port at the mouth of the Xantus
river. Its temple of Apollo equalled that of Delos. Paul visited
this port on his 3rd missionary journey with Luke. Patara
was a stopping place on the route of pilgrims from Europe
to Jerusalem.

Antalya -
Antaya nestles at the northern end
of a gulf against the high Lycian mountains. Paul sailed from
Antalya about AD 48 on his return to Antioch on his
first missionary journey. |
