La
Provence -
The 'Lavendar Land' of Provence in Southern France, with its unusually
interesting natural features, has over many centuries attracted visitors
of all kinds; some have settled and stayed for long periods, and most
have left their mark in the form of spectacular buildings.
The
beautiful scenery with its great variety and colour, the sunshine,
and clear atmosphere have made the region particularly popular with
artists and those seeking rural tranquility.
The
Romans came in 125 B.C. naming the region 'Provincia' - substantial
remains of Roman structures can be seen today and the buildings
for public entertainment are among the finest in the Roman Empire.
It was not until 1791 after the French Revolution that the whole
of Provence was absorbed into France.
