Mount Nebo Bethany -
A sight near the banks of the Jordan river associated with John the Baptist local inscriptions also indicate connections with Elijah who ascended into heaven in a whirlwind.



Excavations indicate that this was an ancient river crossing point of those en route to Jerusalem on pilgrimage.
